We have more warmth and sunshine, world-famous river rapids, and more 14,000 ft. peaks than any other Colorado county. The slogan is certainly not an overstatement.

The Arkansas River Valley is also a paradise for recreation. Monarch Ski Area is nearby and boasts the best in powder skiing, with both downhill and cross-country trails. Many area river rafting outfitters offer every kind of river experience, from a meandering day admiring the scenery or fly fishing, to class V rapids.

The Salida area has a natural hot springs pool, a golf course, an award-winning winery, as well as many hiking and biking trails, including the famous Monarch Crest Trail on the Continental Divide. The area is also rich in Native American and mining history, which adds to every outdoor adventure. Many walking tours of local historical sites, including area ghost towns, are available.
